Appeasement turns to War

1939
Britain and France’s Appeasement policy had delivered part of Czechoslovakia back to Germany, but the events of 1939 saw that policy once again tested by Germany. By the end of the year the policy would be in tatters.

After one near-invasion was aborted at the last moment just days before, Germany decided to invade Poland in August of 1939. Hitler moved troops to the border, and at 10pm on August the 31st an attack on the German radio station at Gliewitz was staged. The staged attack satisfied the German people that the invasion was in self-defence.

Having signed the British-Polish Agreement five days before the invasion, Britain and France sent ultimatums to Germany, and then formally declared war on the 3rd of September, 1939.
